This interview was based on the first book, Path of the Skinwalker. When asked why that title, I explain that it is in part derived from the Navajo belief that the Skinwalker of legend traveled along a particular path, and it just happens that the ranch is located on that path. In addition, there not too far from the ranch and leading out to Werewolf Ridge is a stone formation which has the appearance of a path or highway. It consists of long, rectangular blocks lying side by side and as if placed for a purpose, as if by the ancient peoples. I have always been intrigued by this formation and wonder of its connection to the early history of the land and the original people who may have traveled there long before the arrival of the white man.

As for the term Skinwalker, Gene Steinberg, the host, and an individual with whom I have visited the location, states it is unfortunate that it has become associated with the Ranch, as the lore is not directly associated with the Ute. While accurate in a sense, this claim is not exactly true. It is true that the origin of the Skinwalker lies with the Navajo, but that there is a relation to the Ute cannot be discounted. According to the history of the two people, the Ute established an alliance with the Spanish, and then later with US troops, and worked to drive the Navajo from Utah. In response, or so at least legend has it, the Navajo called upon the dark spirit of the Skinwalker to take revenge upon the Ute. There are those that believe the path of the Skinwalker coincides with that of the Long Walk which the Navajo took south into Arizona while fleeing the harassment of both the white soldiers and their Ute allies.

Later in the interview, Steinberg acknowledges that I have spent more time researching the Ranch and the local phenomena than anyone outside of the scientists associated with NIDS and BAASS, and that my book is the first to relate specific first-person paranormal encounters and experiences there in the surrounding area.
